BayPlace Storefront Service
Technology today comes in pieces. At BayPlace, we put the pieces together to create a professional, robust, competitive solution to your ecommerce needs, then use the Internet to implement the solution as an easy-to-use service.

Our Storefront Service, designed specifically for publishers and independent bookstores, provides a professionally designed and maintained online bookstore for your use. The monthly service includes the following:

  • We host your book database, customer records, and store web pages on our own secure ecommerce server.
  • Our ecommerce bookstore software provides a full-featured online bookstore, with a powerful search engine, comprehensive book citation capabilities, multi-level book subjects, shopping cart, order processing, and customer order history features.
  • You may add any number of 'content' pages to enhance the store, such as Featured Books, Reviews, Store Events, etc.
  • Immediate email notification of all customer orders.
  • Unlimited email technical support.
  • One hour of catalog and web page maintenance per month. Just email or send us the title information and web page copy and we'll key it in for you.
  • One hour of telephone support per month.
  • Unlimited web-based access for you to maintain the book catalog and web pages yourself, if you want to.
  • Daily upload of your computerized inventory.
  • A monthly download of your titles and customer information in Access 97 format, so you can do your own analysis and reporting.
Initial store setup
We won't give you an id and password and then leave you to your own devices. As part of the setup activity, we'll get your input and then do the initial configuration of book subjects, four content pages, and 20 titles. If you have your catalog in electronic format, we'll convert it for you and pre-load as much title information as we can.

Web-based maintenance
All the functions necessary to maintain the book catalog and content pages are performed through web pages that are available to you via your web browser. For adding a few titles or changing web page content, you may be comfortable with using the web pages yourself. If not, we'll do those things for you for a reasonable hourly rate if it takes more than the monthly one hour of maintenance included.

Online bookstore features
We have incorporated numerous features especially for booksellers to enhance the value of the store to your customers and to make it easy for you to use. You can see many of these features on our demonstration store. Here are some features of specific interest for online bookstores:

Book catalog features

  • Numerous book citation fields, including 'In Print' status, replacement ISBN number, multiple authors, and both short and long descriptive texts.
  • You can easily create your own 'clickable' lists of books for display on custom web pages or to appear on the appropriate subject browse page. Lists are created just by entering the book ISBNs. The Storefront software obtains the citation information and current pricing from the database and then formats the book list for a consistent, professional appearance.
  • You can discount and put on sale individual books or all of a given publisher's books. Sales have start/end dates for automatic changeover at midnight, and all book lists and citations automatically reflect the correct pricing.
  • You can define your own multi-level book subjects as is appropriate for your catalog. (Example: Gardening, Flowering Shrubs, Roses) Since this is a virtual bookstore, an individual book can appear in any number of subjects!
Search/browse features
  • Browse by subject, both up- and down-level.
  • Keyword search on titles and author names.
  • Search by combination of subject, publisher, title keywords, and author name.
  • Quicksearch feature does a smart scan for ISBNs, keywords, and book subjects.
  • Sort search results by title, author, publication date, and bestsellers.

A comprehensive solution
We don't sell 'pieces', and we know you don't want to buy another problem. We deliver solutions.

Our Rates
Why we charge the way we do
What Our rates are pretty straightforward:
Initial store setup: $200
Monthly service charge: $50 plus 5 percent of gross sales.
Additional catalog and web page maintenance, and telephone support: $30/hr.
See the column on the left for a description of the services and what's included.

Why Our business objective is not to develop web pages, but to sell books - like you. By working on commission, we match our income basis to your's. Our maintenance charges are nominal, because we want you to use them if you need to, but if you don't, we won't mind.
